No major mutation in COVID-19 virus in India, confirms PMO

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today said that there is no major mutation in COVID-19 virus in India. “Two Pan India studies on the Genome of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus) in India conducted by ICMR and D/o Biotechnology (DBT) suggest that the virus is genetically stable,” it added. This comes after PM Narendra Modi today reviewed COVID-19 pandemic situation in India.

Reports said about 12,000 mutations have been documented in over 3.2 crore cases globally. Mutation is evolution that the virus goes through to adapt to various barriers.
