Noted writer Sara Aboobacker no more

Mangaluru: Noted writer Sara Aboobacker passed away at her residence here on Tuesday, January 10. She was 86.

Born in Kasaragod to Pudiyapuri Ahmad and Zainabi Ahmad, she was one of the first girls in her community of Muslim families in Kasaragod to be educated at a local Kannada school.

Aboobacker’s books largely focused on the lives of Muslim women living in Kerala and Karnataka.

In 1981, Aboobacker published her first article, an editorial on communal harmony, in a local monthly Kannada-language magazine, Lankesh Patrike. Following this, she began writing stories and novels.

Aboobacker is most well-known for her first novel, Chandragiriya Theeradalli.

She is survived by four sons.
