“The National Register of Citizens (NRC) has excluded several genuine Indians and thus cannot be viewed as a red-letter for the Assamese society,” he said while questioning the system of NRC.

“We have lost hope in the present form of NRC right after the draft,” he said adding that NRC is no quarter-final, semi-final and final for driving out Bangladeshis, “Wait and you will see more finals under the BJP regime.”

Speaking about the strategy of the government, he said it was working at both, Assam as well as the Centre. “We have already started fresh strategy on how to drive out illegal migrants at Dispur and Delhi. We will come up with new plans.”

Earlier in the day the Assam government, while announcing the final NRC list said a total of 3.29 crore people had applied for the NRC, of which 3.11 were found to be eligible to be included in the final list. Nearly 19 lakh people, who have been excluded from the list now face the danger of being declared illegal migrants if they don’t contest their exclusion.
