Karkala: Century old SVT aided higher primary school has 320 students but only 2 permanent teachers. Since the last 25 years, no teachers have been appointed to this school which provides education from 1st std to 7th std. Upgraded in 1934 The school began to function in 1911 with its own building near Mahalaxmi temple in Karkala with the name Hindu girl’s school and in 1934, it was upgraded as a higher primary school and renamned as SVT aided higher primary school. Uniform distribution Since it is an aided school, it not only gets all the government facilities, but also free uniforms and notebooks are provided to the students here. Talented students are also provided special sponsorship with assistance from donors. Special encouragement is provided to extra-curricular activities here including Yakshagana and Yoga. The trust bears an annual expense of around Rs 24 lakh every year for paying salaries to the honourary teachers, transportation of the students and school developmental works.
