“Orange Alert” for coastal areas; Fishermen warned not to venture into sea

Mangaluru: The effects of a developing cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal are being felt in the Dakshina Kannada district. There was a heavy downpour throughout the district on Sunday.

Rains continued in Mangaluru city throughout the day on Sunday. It also rained in Puttur, Uppinangady, Kadaba, Subrahmanya, Sullia, Belthangady, and other parts of the district.

Fishermen warned 

The meteorological department has predicted that there is a possibility of good rain in the coastal area for the next three days. An “Orange Alert” has been announced for August 8 and 9.

Rains with strong winds and sea swell are likely, it said.

As the sea is likely to be rough, the Joint Director of Fisheries warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea. The boats already out on fishing have been advised to return to shore immediately.

Three-storey building collapses

A three-storied building collapsed at the Vorkadi Sunkadakatte in Manjeshwar on Sunday morning. A potential disaster was averted as the building had cracked two days ago and the occupants and traders were evacuated.
