Over 300 people stranded at Kadra dam rescued by Navy

Karwar: A team of Indian Navy personnel rescued as many as 300 people stranded near Kadra Dam area in Kaiga village here on Tuesday

The rescue team swung into action following a request from Superintendent of Police, Uttar Kannada district requesting assistance in rescuing the people who were stranded near Kadra dam due to water flooding.

“#IndianNavy rescue team from Naval Base, Karwar rushed to assist people stranded near Kadra Dam, Mallapur Kurnipet, Kaiga (06 Aug19) in response to a request received from SP Uttara Kannada. By late last evening, 300 stranded people were evacuated to safety @SpokespersonMoD”, tweeted the official handle of Indian Navy.

Built across the Kali river, the dam has witnessed a huge rise in water level owing to heavy rainfall in the river basin here

A flood-like situation has developed in various districts across the state due to heavy rains and families have been shifted to safer grounds. The situation might take worsen further as the Indian Meteorological Department, in its weather forecast, predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at various places in the state over the next five days.
