Perla Fire Disaster: Five shops completely gutted; Loss estimated at Rs 1.83 crore

Perla: The devastating fire, which broke out in Perla’s market late Saturday night engulfed nine shops and destroyed five of them. The estimated loss is pegged at Rs 1.83 crore.

The incident occurred in the Pai Building, a commercial complex located on the left side of the Badiyadka-Puttur road.

The fire was first noticed at around 12:15 AM. Local residents attempted to control it before alerting the fire brigade.

The affected shops include Pooja Fancy owned by Narayana Poojari, Monu’s vegetable shop, Gautam Cold House by Jayadev Baliga, Saadat General Store by Mohammed, and Praveen Automobiles owned by Praveen Pai. Additionally, Sanjeev’s sugarcane juice shop sustained significant damage.

Firefighters from Kasaragod and Uppala, along with Badiyadka police officers and local residents, managed to extinguish the blaze after four hours of continuous efforts. Their timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities suspect an electrical short circuit may have started it. A complaint has been registered with Badiyadka police by Gopinath Pai, the owner of the building.
