‘Plans underway to introduce internships for final year degree students’: Minister M C Sudhakar

Mysuru: Higher Education Minister Dr. M C Sudhakar announced that the government plans to introduce internships for final-year students in three-year degree courses to provide skill-based training.

Addressing the 104th convocation of the University of Mysore at Crawford Bhavan on Sunday, Dr. Sudhakar revealed that discussions were currently underway to chalk out the plan. The scheme outlined under the AEDP scheme will offer students internships along with monthly training allowances ranging from Rs 11,000 to 17,000, he said.

Highlighting further reforms in higher education, Dr. Sudhakar disclosed a partnership with the Wadhwani Foundation for a $3 billion project. This initiative aims to provide professional training to all university students and interns.

Additionally, government college students will receive English language mastery training. The minister said that the program will be first introduced at RC College, Bengaluru, before expanding to universities in Mysuru and Mangaluru. There are plans to extend the same to Kalaburagi, Dharwad, and Shivamogga universities, he added.
