The incident took place on February 14 near the Omkar forest zone on a farm belonging to Puthanapura Raju. The elephant was struggling between life and death after suffering an electric shock. Dr. Waseem Mirza, a veterinary officer of the forest department, and his staff treated the elephant. Later in the evening, the jumbo recovered and was released into the wild.
Union Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav tweeted a video of the incident on his handle and praised the efforts of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve staff in saving the elephant with their quick efforts.
“So happy to note that an electrocuted elephant, struggling for life, was saved due to prompt action by the staff of Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The female elephant has been released back into the Reserve and is being closely monitored. Our forest frontline workers are our pride,” his tweet read.
