Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the demand for power in the state has surged owing to deficit rainfall.

Speaking to media persons at Vidhana Soudha here, Siddaramaiah pointed out that the power consumption for the same period last year was around 900 MW while now it is around 1500-1600 MW. The shortfall in the power situation is due to a lack of rainfall.

“Yesterday, an order has been issued directing power generators to sell power to the state government and nowhere else,” he said.

Reacting to the BJP’s allegation that precautionary measures were not taken, he said, “I can’t answer everything that the BJP asks. They are doing politics. Do they know the facts? There is a drought due to the deficit rainfall. Despite this, power is being supplied and there is no complete load shedding as they allege.”

“During today’s meeting we will discuss the issue of providing seven hours of power supply in three phases to farmers,” he added.
