Pradeep registered a total lift of 210 kg. Tom Keen, who registered lift of 180 kg bagged a silver medal, while Rob Dyke won the bronze medal. He will be competing in another segment on Wednesday.
Speaking to Udayavani after winning the gold medal Pradeep said that due Visa issues as many as 15 lifters from the state could not participate in the Commonwealth Benchpress Powerlifting Championship and dedicated his gold medal to them.
Taking to Twitter Mangalore South Assembly Constituency, MLA Vedavyas Kamath wrote, “Congratulations Pradeep Kumar Acharya on winning GOLD 83kg Commonwealth Benchpress Powerlifting Championship being held at St John’s in Canada.
