Provide free travel for women on pvt buses in Udupi, DK and Shivamogga: V Sunil Kumar

Udupi: Close on the heels of the announcement of free rides for women on government buses in the state, former minister and Karkala MLA raised the issue of the “unfairness” of the policy to the women in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Shivamogga.

In a series of tweets, Sunil Kumar highlighted the primacy of private buses in these areas.

“Transport connectivity is available to most parts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Shivamogga districts through private buses. Government bus service is not available here. But the Congress government has decided to limit the free bus service to women only to the government transport agency,” he wrote.

He called this “unfair” to the people of these parts of the state and added that “The government should provide free travel facilities to women in private buses in these three districts.”

Congress in its electoral manifesto had promised to provide free travel for women on government buses in the state.
