The accused identified as Arjun Honkera, a PSI at Gonibeedu police station had summoned the youth, K L Puneet of Mudigere taluk for questioning over allegations raised by a few villagers that he was in contact with a married woman.

In his complaint, lodged on May 22 Puneet alleged that he was thrashed severely and when he requested for water, the PSI made another accused person who was in the lock-up in connection with a theft case—to urinate on his face. He was even forced to lick the urine that had fallen on the floor, Puneet stated.

Based on his complaint, the PSI was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Amendment Act.

Meanwhile, Arjun went missing after the registration of the complaint and later filed petition for anticipatory bail which was rejected by the court.
