Rameshwaram cafe bombing suspect remanded to 30-day judicial custody

Bengaluru: The key suspect in the Rameshwaram Cafe bombing case, was presented before the court on Wednesday as his custody with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) ended. He has been now remanded to judicial custody for 30 days.

Muzameel Sharif was apprehended by NIA officials on March 28 and subsequently appeared before the NIA special court at the Sessions Court premises.

It was revealed during proceedings that Sharif had provided the materials used in the explosion under the instructions of alleged master bomber Musavir Hussain Shabib and mastermind Abdul Mateen Taha.

Consequently, the NIA requested 10-day custody, but the court granted only 7 days. Om Arpril 3 Sharif was produced in court via video conference from the location of his interrogation. Following the hearing, he was remanded to judicial custody for 30 days.

During interrogation, Sharif admitted to being involved in plots orchestrated by Abdul Mateen Taha, targeting various locations in the state, including Bangalore.

He also confessed to aiding in previous incidents such as the Shimoga bombing and the Mangalore cooker bomb blast. Further evidence corroborating his involvement has been obtained. However, Sharif is withholding information regarding the whereabouts of Abdul Mateen and Musavir Hussain, who remain at large.
