Rehabilitation for prisoners released on good conduct: Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru: ‘Mane-Malige’ is a rehabilitation scheme started by the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Limited for minority community members who have served their sentence in jail and have been release on good conduct and to those who have been acquitted of charges.

The aim of ‘Mane-Malige’ scheme is to get them into mainstream. The scheme is is applicable to minorities who have lost their houses and businesses due to communal riots or natural calamities. It also applies to those charged under terrorist activities, Goonda Act and later acquitted by the court, said MLC Ivan D’Souza.

There is a good demand for the scheme and the authorities have already received 850 applications in Dakshina Kannada district so far. The last date for submitting the applications is August 31st. Under the scheme, the unit cost is Rs 5 lakh, of which, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs 2.50 lakh, and the remaining Rs 2.50 lakh will be given at 3% interest.
