Retreating Monsoon: IMD issues ‘Yellow Alert’ for Karavali coast

Mangaluru/Udupi: The North East Monsoon has picked up pace in the Karavali coast. Good rainfall is expected for the next two days and the Indin Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a “Yellow alert” for the coast.

On Monday and Tuesday, parts of Dakshina Kannda received moderate rainfall, while it was cloudy in parts of the Udupi district.

On Monday midnight, rainfall accompanied by lightning was observed in many parts of Dakshina Kannda including Dharmasthala, Guruvayanakere, Neria, Belthangady, Ujire, Gandibagilu, and Mangaluru.  On Tuesday  Aladangadi, Naravi, and other parts of Bantwal also received showers.

Three houses were damaged by the lightning strike in Yekkaru village. Lightning struck the house of Tukaram Shetty’s house in Thenka Yekkaru village.  As a result walls of the house developed cracks, electrical wiring, electronic equipment in the house were burnt. Two nearby houses were also damaged by the lightning.

The daytime temperatures have started soaring in Dakshina Kannada. according to the IMD data, the mercury reached a high of 31.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The minimum temperature recorded was  22.4 degrees celsius.
