The robbers made entry into the temple by climbing up the ‘Gopura’ and using a rope to climb down into the temple. They then broke open an iron box and stole money from it and proceeded to steal Rs.10, 000 from the ‘seva’ counter.

Sunday morning when the temple priest Ramachandra Aitala attempted to open the temple front door, he found that the door was locked from the inside. He immediately informed Manjeshwara police who investigated the site and decided it was a robbery.

It is suspected that the culprits must have brought and used a ladder to climb to the roof. Udyavara G.L.P. School is right behind the temple and the school’s CCTV footage might have captured the crooks in their act. The footage is yet to be analyzed.

In 2017 during the Karthika Deepotsava , robbers gained access into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and made away with the  golden eye of the Shivalinga. The police are undertaking additional investigation into this case as well.
