Bengaluru: In a major drug bust, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials foiled a drug smuggling attempt and seized 3kg of pseudoephedrine worth Rs 50 lakh, concealed inside an electric guitar case.

The consignment was declared as a musical instrument and was meant to be sent by air cargo from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to Sydney in Australia.

The DRI sleuths had received a tip-off that a drugs consignment had been booked at a courier agency in Trichy and was meant to be smuggled to Sydney via Bengaluru airport. Reportedly the
banned substance is an essential component of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), popularly known as Ecstasy pill,

The sleuths tracked the consignment to a private agency in Yeshwantpur here and upon cutting open the guitar case they found the white powder concealed on the edges. Tests revealed that it was pseudoephedrine.
