Saffron flag hoisted on mosque in Belagavi; case registered

Amid the loudspeaker row in the state, a saffron flag was found hoisted atop the Sattigeri Maddi mosque in Belagavi’s Mudalagi taluk on Wednesday.

Police said that miscreants must have hoisted the flag between 3.30 am to 5.30 am. A tense situation prevailed in the area after the incident came to light in the morning.

The mosque Qazi informed the police who then rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. An FIR was registered in this regard.

Police later convened a peace meeting between leaders of both the Hindu and Muslim communities to avoid flaring up of tensions.

Though the police controlled the situation, security has been beefed up in all sensitive areas of the district to avoid any untoward incidents.
