Sanchari Vijay gifts life through organ donation

Bengaluru: National Award-winning actor Sanchari Vijay breathed his last on Tuesday, June 15 after meeting with a road accident on Saturday, June 12.

Earlier on Monday, he was declared brain-dead and his family had decided to donate his organs. However, later in the day, he was showing signs of brain failure, as per the medical bulletin issued by the hospital.

Sanchari Vijay’s brain was dead after a subdural hematoma i.e. brain bleeding, following which his family decided to donate his organs.

Jeevasarthakathe, an 0rgan donation and transplantation organization in Karnataka has further taken the responsibility to start the organ retrieval process and informed the late actor will donate multiple organs such as two kidneys, liver, heart valves and corneas.

“The police clearance has been done. Now, in some time we would shift the donor for organ retrieval to the OT and begin the process of organ harvesting. Donor’s elder brother Virupaksha, younger brother Siddesh have given written confirmation for the same a while back, while his cousin brother Srikanth N. S was the witness. We have also informed Dr. Satish who is the HOD of forensic medicine Victoria hospital for post mortem. His team would be coming to perform the PM to Apollo hospital towards the end of the retrieval process,” Lijamol Joseph, chief transplant coordinator of Jeevasarthakathe/SOTTO was quoted speaking to Bangalore Times.

The Jeevasarthakathe has been constituted by the Government of Karnataka for a sustained deceased donor (Cadaver) transplantation programme in the state of Karnataka.

Jeevasarthakathe is the body appointed to oversee the implementation of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994. The organization aims to coordinate the deceased donor transplantation activities and also educate the public on organ donation.

The functions of Jeevasarthakathe include, involving the hospitals for active participation of the deceased donor (Cadaver) program through promotional activities, seminars, workshops and educational programmes.

The public awareness programme takes place through hospitals, educational institutions, corporates and non-governmental organizations along with media participation.
