Saptapadi Vivah Yojana to start from January

Bengaluru: Due to the increased population and in the advent of corona virus, the government has decided to hold Saptapadi Vivah Yojana twice in a month instead of two times a year.  Under the Yojana, the groom will be receive a shirt and a dhoti along with Rs. 5,000 in cash. On the other hand the bride will receive a saree, Rs.1,000 in cash and Mangalsutra weighing eight grams.

The mass marriages will be held on two auspicious timings every month and the registration has to be done 15 days prior, informed Muzrai minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. He further added that the government has decided to hold mass marriages on 15th and 20th of January and 20th and 23rd February.

On crowd control, the minister said that it was possible to control crowd and that only the groom, bride and their parents will be allowed to take part.

Around 23 couples got married under Saptapadi Vivah Yojana recently. Many couples who registered under the scheme, got married privately as the government couldn’t carry out the marriages.
