Mangaluru: Police will not allow fish transporting vehicles to operate on city roads if they are not fitted with waste water collection tanks and seize them if they are found spilling waste water while in motion, said Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh during the weekly phone-in programme on Friday Dec 21st.

Mr Suresh was responding to complaints of waste water menace from fish carrying vehicles and the foul smell emitted by those transporting decayed fish to fish meal factories

The police have regularly been taking up the drive, but the menace stops during the drive and recurs soon after. Henceforth, regular monitoring would be in place, he assured.

Responding to a complaint from a caller from Kuloor that buses halting at the Honnakatte Junction bus shelter on NH 66 have been obstructing traffic, police Inspector (Traffic-South) Gurudutt Kamath said that though the police have been booking cases against buses halting right on the highway instead of at bus bays or service roads, people force buses to halt on the NH. Now police are compelling passengers to move to the designated halts instead of waiting on the road flanks.

Couple of callers from Urwa Stores complained about the menace of dumping of seized vehicles on police station premises and sought their disposal. The police commissioner responded to the complaint and said that the vehicles involved in court cases are kept on the station premises amid acute space shortage. Vehicles involved in accidents are not brought to the stations; instead the RTO inspects such vehicles at the accident spot itself and the vehicles are handed over to the owners.

The commissioner also assured required action to a caller from bejai who complained about youth riding dangerously on motorcycles fitted with tampered silencers.
