Self-defence is very essential for girls in modern times: Min Kota Srinivas Poojary

K R Pete: State Minister for Social Welfare and Backward Welfare, Kota Srinivas Poojary has said that the state government was spending Rs 18 crores towards “Obavva Arts of Self-Defence Training’, jointly initiated by the Social Welfare Department, Backward Classes Welfare Department, and girls hostels that come under Karnataka Residential Education Institution.

After visiting the Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School at Shettinayakanakoppalu and viewing the karate self-defence training of girl students on Thursday, he said, “We are observing a lot of physical assault and abuse crimes against women. It is very necessary that the current generation of girls learn self-defence as it is very essential in modern times. For this reason, we have implemented the training programme.

“The government is spending Rs. 18 crores towards training and karate uniforms. We have also appointed around 1000 professional karate trainers”, he added.

The minister said that the government will ensure that the students from economically backward and other weaker sections of the society, studying in the residential schools would be provided a quality education.
