The deceased identified as Abhishek A S was employed at a bar in Gandhinagar. On November 6, he had boarded a train to return to his residence at Pandavapura but never reached there. His family tried to search for him and later lodged a missing complaint with the police on November 8.

Police investigating the case questioned a few of his friends who were accompanying him to his village on that day. During the investigation, his friends revealed that Abhishek had leaned out of the moving train to click a selfie and failed to notice the iron beams of the bridge. His head banged into one of the beams and he slipped and fell off the train into the river.

His friends, however, remained silent about the incident as they feared that Abhishek’s parents would blame them for the incident. On November 10, the police along with help of Railway Police, the rescue team of the Fire & Emergency Services department in Mandya, and local divers began a search for Abhishek’s body.

The search was hampered due to the rains and on November 14, the body was found floating in the river and was fished out near Srirangapatna
