Davangere: The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (founded by Prof. B. Krishnaappa) held a semi nude protest on Tuesday, December 24, demanding the immediate removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the Cabinet over his controversial remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The protestors, who marched from the Ambedkar Circle to the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, submitted a memorandum to the President through the office, expressing their outrage over Shah’s comments.

In a recent debate in Parliament, Amit Shah stated that referring to Ambedkar had become a “fashion,” and controversially added that chanting the name of God would bring more merit than invoking Ambedkar.

These statements, the protestors claimed, were a serious insult to the Bharat Ratna awardee and Constitution architect.

The Dalit group has demanded that a suo-moto case be filed against Shah under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and called for his immediate removal from both the Lok Sabha and his ministerial position.

The protest was led by district coordinator Raghavendra Kadammani, K.T.J. Nagar Ravi, Mallikarjuna Vandali, T. Ravikumar, and others.
