Panduranga Kamath, a shopkeeper from Kadri, has been filling potholes on NH-66 near Nanthoor using soil he transports in his car.

Despite the ongoing road development work in the area, potholes have been causing significant inconvenience to motorists. Observing the danger posed, Kamath decided to take action, aiming to prevent accidents, especially for two-wheeler riders.

Kamath, who regularly commutes via Nanthoor Road, experienced firsthand the risks posed by the potholes while riding his two-wheeler. This inspired him to take up the task of filling them.

After closing his shop at night, he brings soil from home in a sack and fills the potholes. The public has widely appreciated Kamath’s efforts.

His wife noted, “He has always been interested in social service. Whether near our home or on the roads, he takes it upon himself to address such issues.”

Speaking about his motivation, Kamath said, “I saw the struggles of two-wheeler riders, especially women and parents taking children to school in the mornings and evenings. Their difficulties moved me, and I decided to fill the potholes at night to help prevent accidents.”

Earlier, even traffic police had attempted to repair potholes near Nanthoor during the monsoon by using cement mixtures. However, locals allege that the National Highway Authority has failed to maintain the highway properly, leading to recurring issues.
