Shirva: 12-year-old schoolgirl injured in road mishap

A 12-year-old schoolgirl was seriously injured after being hit by a school bus on Sunday (September 15) near Balaji Restaurant on the Kapu-Shirva road.

The victim, identified as Marlin Mascarenhas, daughter of Joseph Mascarenhas from Shirva, was returning home after participating in a human chain event organized as part of International Democracy Day.

Marlin, a 7th-grade student at Don Bosco English Medium School in Shirva, had attended the event in Ermal with the school’s permission.

After returning by school bus and getting off near her home, she was crossing the road from the right side of the bus when another bus, attempting to overtake at high speed, ran over her.

The accident resulted in severe injuries to Marlin’s ribs, head, eye, and right shoulder. She was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Udupi, where she is undergoing treatment for her serious injuries.

A case has been registered against the bus driver, Abdul Basheer, at the Shirva police station.
