Shivamogga: Pick-up truck mows down two brothers who tried to stop cattle trafficking

Shivamogga: Two brothers who tried to stop cattle traffickers were seriously injured on Tuesday when the alleged traffickers mowed them down the vehicle.

The incident reportedly occurred at Melige in Tirthahalli Taluk here.

The injured have been identified as Kiran (23) and Charan (24) sons of Kittanagadde resident Manjunath.

Sources said that the brothers were following the pick-up truck that was suspected to be illegally transporting cattle. In a bid to escape, the occupants of the truck rammed into the vehicle the youths were traveling. The occupants of the pick-up truck, however, managed to flee.

Both were seriously injured and were rushed to JC Hospital and transferred to Manipal Hospital for advanced medical treatment.

It is gathered that the same pick-up had tried to mow down people near Kudumallige Rice Mills.

There was a tense atmosphere outside the JC Hospital as hundreds gathered after the incident.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jananedra assured to take strict action against the accused in the case. Arrangements have been made for the medical treatment of the injured youths, he said.
