Shivamogga: Woman hospitalized with monkey fever

Shivamogga: A woman from a Shimoga village has been hospitalized with Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD).

Shivamogga Health Officer Rajesh Suragihalli said that the patient was suffering from fever for a few days, following which her blood sample was collected and tested for KFD.

KFD, also known as monkey fever, is caused by a Kyasanur Forest disease virus, which primarily affects humans and monkeys.

The disease is characterised by chills, frontal headache, body ache, and high fever for five to 12 days with a case fatality rate of 3 to 5 per cent.
