Silt removed; Jakribettu jack well filled: Water flows to Thumbay dam

Bantwal: Since desilting had been undertaken along the path of MRPL dam and Shamboor AMR dam, enough water has flown down and filled the hack well at Jakribettu. From here, the water has flowed to Thumbay vented dam, bringing up the water level there.

The water flow began after MLA Rajesh Naik Ulippadiguttu and Bantwal municipality member Govind Prabhu employed a JCB and a Hitachi for sand dredging here. The water flowed to a distance of 2kms and collected around the hack well. The lack of drinking water within the municipality limits has been quenched.

True Udayavani report

Since the last two months, Udayavani has been regularly giving reports stating that enough water was available if desilting had been carried out along the dam path. The reports have now rung true.

Even though it rained twice in June, the water did not flow into the river. But it is surprising to note that so much water was hidden beneath the silt. After the rain two weeks ago, even though water at Nekkilady minor dam was overflowing, it was also getting soaked into the sand, hence there was no flow on the upper side. The officials only inevitably announced water rationing, but failed to carry out desilting at Sarapady and Shamboor dams.

“The desilting conducted at MRPL dam is the reason for the flow of water. Because of this, Jakribettu and Thumbay have received water,” said Linge Gowda, MCC engineer

“We conducted dredging for a stretch of 2 kms. The silt was hindering the flow of water. Of its removal, water began to flow,” says MLA Rajesh Naik Ulippadiguttu
