Someshwara: Sea erosion persists; loss of road feared

Ullal: The sea erosion at Battappady in Someshwara has persisted and it is feared that the road leading to the beach may get washed away along with the electricity poles installed here. Although the amount of rain incurred on Wednesday had reduced slightly, the repair work in connection to natural disaster due to the incessant rains of Tuesday is being continued.

The sea erosion at Battappady started in the evening and although stones were heaped as a temporary breakwater, more 10 coconut trees were consumed by the sea. Even at Someshwara, the steps leading down from the temple hear are presently inundated by the sea and the tourism department has failed to take any remedial measures in this connection.

The torrential rains on Tuesday brought down the compound wall of the property belonging to Abdul Rehman of Pilikuru Hosanagara in Talapady GP and the collapsed wall blocked the drain for rainwater. This created an artificial flood which barged into the agricultural land belonging to his neighbor Sheena Poojary and caused massive loss to the cultivation there. The concrete road between Devinagara and Devipura has collapsed because of which, there is no connection to the people there. The people here are compelled to make use of the round-about route via Kerala’s Tuminadu and Kinya. The wall beside the road at Devipura temple has collapsed and the road itself is in danger.

MLA UT Khader visits affected areas

MLA U T Khader visited areas which suffered natural calamity at Sambartota in Mudipu as well as Thokkottu, Ullal, Talapady late on Tuesday night. Officials and representatives of the people were present.
