The sea erosion at Battappady started in the evening and although stones were heaped as a temporary breakwater, more 10 coconut trees were consumed by the sea. Even at Someshwara, the steps leading down from the temple hear are presently inundated by the sea and the tourism department has failed to take any remedial measures in this connection.

The people here are compelled to make use of the round-about route via Kerala’s Tuminadu and Kinya. The wall beside the road at Devipura temple has collapsed and the road itself is in danger.
