SSLC results: Pass rate drops to 73.40% despite increase in grace marks

Bengaluru: The results for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams were declared on Thursday, revealing a pass rate of 73.40% for the academic year 2023-24. This marks a significant decrease of 10.49% from the previous year’s pass rate of 83.89%.

This year, an additional 20% grace marks were awarded, yet the pass rate remained notably lower.

The government has eliminated supplementary exams and introduced a new method allowing students to select their best scores from three exams.

Girls once again outperformed boys, with a pass percentage of 81.11%, while boys achieved a pass rate of 65.90%, the lowest in the past three years. Rural students surpassed their urban counterparts, with a pass percentage of 74.17% compared to 72.83% for urban students.

The highest scores were attained in language subjects, followed by Maths, Science, and Social Science. English-medium students demonstrated better performance compared to Kannada-medium students.

Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Shivamogga districts were the top performers, achieving pass percentages of 94%, 92.12%, and 88.67% respectively.

A total of 2,288 schools achieved a 100% pass rate this year. Students have the opportunity to request scanned copies of their results until May 16 and can opt for re-evaluation between May 13 and May 22. The second round of exams is scheduled from June 7 to 14, with the registration deadline set for May 16.
