Udupi: It almost a year since the Karavali bypass junction over-bridge was opened for vehicular movement, but the contracting company Navayuga has not taken the trouble to get the streetlights connected with electricity. Neither the district administration nor the representatives of the people have taken notice of this.
The work on the 800 meter long over-bridge began at the end of 2015 and hobbled on for three years. Its singular pace successfully attracted several protests. As a result, Navayuga finally opened the bridge for vehicles at the end of 2018. But no power connection has been provided to the street lights installed along the stretch,
The dark underpass
Two wheelers, cars and buses proceeding towards Malpe, Kundapur, Mumbai, Shimoga and other areas via Udupi have to pass through the underpass at Karavali Junction. Pedestrians depend on the underpass to reach Karavali bus stand. But since no lights have been installed at the underpass, come evening, entire Karavali goes back into the dark ages. Women find it extremely trying to venture through the dark underpass.
Streetlights that glow during the day
The hi-mast lights at Akashvani Junction in Brahmavar and the lights on the flyover glow more during the day than in the night. Although this concern has been brought to the notice of Navayuga company by the locals, the company has not taken any action.
Streetlights, but no light
Six months have passed since the streetlights at Heruru and Kalyanpura stopped working. Daily, thousands of vehicles pass along both of these bridges.
