Udupi: It almost a year since the Karavali bypass junction over-bridge was opened for vehicular movement, but the contracting company Navayuga has not taken the trouble to get the streetlights connected with electricity. Neither the district administration nor the representatives of the people have taken notice of this.
The work on the 800 meter long over-bridge began at the end of 2015 and hobbled on for three years. Its singular pace successfully attracted several protests. As a result, Navayuga finally opened the bridge for vehicles at the end of 2018. But no power connection has been provided to the street lights installed along the stretch,
The dark underpass
Two wheelers, cars and buses proceeding towards Malpe, Kundapur, Mumbai, Shimoga and other areas via Udupi have to pass through the underpass at Karavali Junction. Pedestrians depend on the underpass to reach Karavali bus stand. But since no lights have been installed at the underpass, come evening, entire Karavali goes back into the dark ages. Women find it extremely trying to venture through the dark underpass.
