Mandya: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a flurry of political statements during his address at the conference for beneficiaries of government guarantee schemes on Sunday. The focus of his remarks was the recent political maneuvers and alliances in the region, particularly concerning Member of Parliament Sumalatha Ambareesh and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) coalition.

Siddaramaiah claimed that Sumalatha Ambareesh won the previous election due to the Congress votes in the district. “Sumalatha won with Congress votes. Now she has aligned with the BJP. Due to this, a rift has emerged in the BJP-JDS alliance,” he said.

Siddaramaiah further said that confusion has arisen in the BJP-JDS alliance over whom should get the Mandya ticket — Sumalatha or JDS candidate. “Our candidate should win by defeating such an unholy alliance,” the chief minister appealed.

Expressing his outrage towards the shifting political landscape, Siddaramaiah criticized the JDS for its newfound affinity towards the BJP, despite their previous opposition to the party.

Responding to Siddaramaiah’s assertions, former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy congratulated the CM for accepting the truth.  He remarked, ” You (Siddaramaih) have admitted that Congress votes were the reason for Sumalatha’s victory. Congratulations for that.”
