Super 8s of Nagesh Trophy, national T20 cricket tournament for the blind, inaugurated

Hyderabad: The Super 8s of the IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind was inaugurated   in Hyderabad on March 12.

The event was held at Hotel Majestic, in the presence of esteemed guests, including Venugopala Chary, Special Representative to the Government of Telangana & Chairman, Telangana State Irrigation Development Corporation, and Deepak Sapra, CEO, Pharmaceutical Services & API, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from March 13 to 17. Eight teams have qualified, divided into two pools of four teams each. Group A comprises Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Odisha, and Haryana, while Group B has Karnataka, Jharkhand, Delhi, and Gujarat. The two table toppers from each group will qualify for the semifinals.

The matches will be played at the AYR Stadium and Masters Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. The Nagesh Trophy is the most prestigious tournament for Cricket for the Blind in the country. The tournament is being held in memory of SP Nagesh, Founder President, Cricket Association for the Blind in India, and Founder Trustee, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Mahantesh G.K, President, CABI said, “Nagesh Trophy is the most prestigious tournament for Cricket for the Blind in the country. The board has made sure that all the players will have a very good experience in this year’s tournament as it will be travelling to seven cities of the country. I wish all the teams the very best for the tournament and everyone performs the best to their abilities.”

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Mahantesh G.K, President, CABI; Mr. E. John David, General Secretary, CABI; Mr. Rajanish Henry, Chairman, Nagesh Trophy, and Mr. Sridhar, President, CAB Telangana. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahantesh G.K, President, CABI, expressed his wishes to all the teams and hoped that everyone performs to their best abilities.

The tournament will travel to seven cities in the country, creating a milestone in Blind Cricket history. With the best teams competing against each other, cricket enthusiasts can expect an action-packed and exciting tournament ahead.
