Super moon today

Udupi: This year, the moon will be visible as a ‘super-moon’ on Jan 21^st, Feb 19^th and Mar 21^st. On these dates during the phase of full moon as a super moon, it will be 14 times larger than its usual size and shall also shine 25 times brighter than normal.

On Jan 21^st, the moon will be at a distance of 3.57 lakh km from the earth m,aking it 27,000 km closer to the earth in comparison to its usual distance of 3.84 lakh km. On Feb 19^th, the moon will be at a distance of 3.56 lakh km from the earth and on Mar 21^st the distance will be 3.6 lakh km.

On Jan 21^st, there is a lunar eclipse, but it will not be visible in India and will only be visible in Europe, north and south America, informed Dr A P Bhat, convener of the Poornaprajnya Hobby Astronomy viewers Association.
