Suspected naxal leader Roopesh Madikeri presented in the Court

Madikeri: Suspected naxal leader Roopesh who is facing the allegation of having threatened the villagers of Mundrotu and Mangudimale within Bhagamandala limits in 2010 was presented at the 1st Additional District and Sessions Court under heavy security. Roopesh, who is currently incarcerated at the central prison in Madikeri district, was brought to the court under the escort of Kerala anti terror squad, Kerala police and Kodagu police commandos. As soon as he alighted from the police vehicle he cried, “Naxalbari Zindabad! Maoists are not criminals!” Since the district court’s Judge Veerappa V Mallapura was on vacation, the accused was presented before Judge Pavanesh of the 1st Additional and Sessions Court. Since public prosecutors do not appear at the court on Saturdays, a date to submit objection was decided and the investigation was postponed to May 22nd. Case background There are altogether 38 cases booked against Roopesh in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on various charges including naxal activity. 2 separate cases are registered against him at Madikeri rural police station. He is being present to the court for the 6th time, in connection to the investigation of the 2 separate cases are registered against him here. After investigation, he was taken to Kerala. Heavy security and barricades were erected on the outside of the court under the leadership of city station officer Shanmuga.
