Tipu Sultan flex row: 3 arrested for tearing flex put up by Congress

Bengaluru: In relation to allegedly tearing the poster of Karnataka Congress’ “Freedom March” bearing Tipu Sultan’s image, the police have arrested three people.

The arrested include pro-Hindu leader Puneeth Kerehalli.

The arrest was made on the complaint filed by local Congress leader Manjunath at the Halasuru Gate Police Station on Sunday, August 14.

Based on the complaint, the police had filed a case under the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971, and outraging of religious feelings under Section 295A of the IPC.

Earlier, a flex related to the “Freedom March” of the Karnataka Congress on the eve of 75th Indian Independence was put up at the Hudson Circle located at Nripatunga Road. The flex was bearing Tipu Sultan’s image. Irked by this some miscreants had torn the flex.

Later, KPCC President D K Shivakumar, MP D K Suresh, and other Congress leaders reached the spot and condemned the incident.
