Sagar: The world-famous Jog Falls has been ravaged by continuous rains making tourists flood to the place from across the State in the past two days. The authorities at the falls have raked in more than Rs 1 lakh on Sunday itself. With the constant rain pouring in, it is more of the mist than the waterfall that the tourists are getting to view. Only for a few times, the mist leaves a gap enough to see the waterfall's four streams Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket together. Due to the Independence Day holiday on Saturday and the weekend holiday on Sunday people from across the State had arrived at the Falls. The onslaught of tourists caused a two-day traffic jam near the Falls. With the increasing number of people arriving, it has become imperative for the Jog Development Authority to take all necessary precautions against the backdrop of COVID-19. Earlier, there were restrictions on the entry of tourists to the Falls and sanitizer and thermal scanning were mandatory at the main entrance. Last week, when district in-charge minister K S Eshwarappa had come for a visit to the Falls the rush caused by his visit, had caused every precaution to be violated y ever visitor. After the minister's visit, the authorities were able to enforce the rules for another four days. However, after that due to lack of staff, the authorities had to stand helpless in enforcing COVID-19 guidelines.
