Two BMTC staff among three arrested for fake currency racket

Bengaluru: Yelahanka police arrested three persons, including two BMTC crew members for allegedly circulating fake currency notes.

The arrested are Somanna Gowda (38), a native of Raichur and Nanje Gowda (32) from Channarayapatna, both of who are employed with the BMTC and Kiran Kumar (24), a native of Hassan and a photographer by profession. A fourth accused who is said to be the kingpin of the racket is absconding.

Acting on a tip-off that the trio were trying to exchange fake currency valuing over Rs 81 lakh for Rs 25 lakhs in real currency through an agent near Kogilu Circle here the policemen went to the spot in civil clothes and began questioning them. The accused tried to flee the spot but were nabbed by the police.

The police seized the fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denominations from their possesion. The police also raided a house, that had been taken on rent by the trio for the sole purpose of taking printouts of currency notes.

A case was registered at the Yelahanka police station and investigation is on.
