Two software engineers swept away in Cauvery river while clicking selfie

Bengaluru: The fever for selfies killed two techies when they were washed away in Cauvery river at Mekedatu in Ramanagara district on Sunday while trying to click a selfie.

The deceased have been identified as Shamir Rahman (29) and Bhavani Shankar(29), natives of Bidar. They were employees in a software company. Since it was a holiday, the duo along with two other friends were picnicking at the spot. Sameer slipped and fell into the water while clicking selfie, and seeing his friend in a danger, Bhavani jumped into the water to save him. Unfortunately, they both were washed away in the spouting river water. 

The police who reached at the spot began to search for the duo. However, the police failed to trace them. Police have informed the families of the victims about the episode. 

The river are in full spate because of increasing river due to the release of excess water from the Krishna Raja Sagar dam.
