On the night of September 11, 2014, Pitti Nagesh alias Nagesh Devadiga (41) of Kukkikatte was attacked and killed near Halima Sabju Auditorium in Udyavara.

Police had arrested 5 persons – identified as Ivan Richard alias Munna, Guruprasad Shetty, Santosh Poojary, Vishwanath Shetty, and Zakir Hussain — and charged them with the murder.

However, the court acquitted the accused after the prosecution failed to prove the allegations mounted against them. The court said there was a lack of supporting evidence to pin the blame on the 5 accused.

Senior advocate Shantaram Shetty argued on behalf of the accused.
