Udupi: Downpour of the decade hits Temple Town

Udupi: Overnight incessant pouring of rains has completely battered the town. Residents unable to come out of their homes have never witnessed such a weather phenomenon in over a decade.

Large parts of the town such as Gundaibailu, Ambalapadi, Mathada Bettu, Bylakere Nittur, Kodankur Chitpadi are completely submerged in this torrential rains occurring under the Uttara Nakshatra (North Star).

 

Losses worths lakhs of rupees have been incurred as water entered most of the shops and other establishments in these areas.

Waterlogging did not even spare the town’s famous Sri Krishna Matha whose parking lot is completely underwater.

 

The fire brigade and police personnel are rescuing people trapped in low lying areas on boat. Crane was used to rescue those in danger at Kalsanka Bylakere.

Heavy rainfall has also caused the Swarna and Sita rivers to overflow.

The Malpe-Molokaluru section of the National Highway is closed.

In Puttige, houses have been damaged due to landslides.
