Osteoporosis, a silent condition that weakens bones and increases the risk of fractures, often goes undetected due to a lack of awareness about the disease. It predominantly affects postmenopausal women, and early diagnosis is crucial to prevent its progression.
In light of this, Dr. Rajaram Pai, Head of the Department of Orthopedics at Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hospital, Udupi, emphasizes the significance of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing in detecting the onset of osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis occurs when the body fails to form new bones adequately or when there is increased destruction of existing bones. By undergoing a non-invasive BMD test, individuals can assess the density of their bones and receive appropriate guidance on managing the condition.
