Udupi: Geethothsava and Sahasrakanta Gita Parayana today

Udupi: In commemoration of Geetha Jayanti, Paryaya Sri Puthige Sri Krishna Matha is hosting a grand Geetotsava and Sahasrakanta Gita Parayana (recitation) today, December 11. The program begins at 9:30 AM at Rajangana. A Gita Shobhayatra will precede the event, starting at 9:00 AM on Rathabeedi.

The event will be presided over by Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji, the seer of Sri Puthige Matha, who will also deliver his blessings. Junior pontiff Sri Sushrindra Tirtha Swamiji will be present. The event will be inaugurated by Mahamahopadhyaya Sadhu Sri Bhadresh Das from the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute, Delhi.

The Geetotsava is set to feature various programs spanning several days:

  • Dec 12, 6 PM: Conclusion of an 18-day Gita discourse by Shatavadhani Udupi Ramnath Acharya and Harikatha Mangala.
  • Dec 13, 5 PM: Gita singing and exposition.
  • Dec 15, 9 AM: Gita Literature Festival and Poetry Gathering.
  • Dec 16, 5 PM: Lecture by Dr. Prabhakar Joshi on “The Brilliance of Gita in Yakshagana.”
  • Dec 17, 5:15 PM: Release of the book Geetamruta Sara by Sri Sujnanendra Tirtha Swamiji.
  • Dec 18, 5:30 PM: Gita comedy fest by Gangavati Pranesh and team, followed by Geeta Dasavani by the Mettur brothers.

Additional sessions include thought-provoking lectures and cultural programs:

  • Dec 19, 5 PM: Talk on “RSS and the Bhagavad Gita” by Kajampady Subrahmanya Bhat.
  • Dec 21, 9 AM: Geetotsava for school students, followed by the release of the book Sri Bhagavanuvacha at 5:30 PM.
  • Dec 22, 10 AM: Youth Geetotsava led by Rohith Chakratirtha and team.
  • Dec 23, 5 PM: Lecture by Addanda Kariappa on “Kshatra and the Bhagavad Gita.”
  • Dec 24, 5 PM: Talk on “Indian Culture and the Bhagavad Gita” by K. P. Putturaya.
  • Dec 25, 5 PM: Discussion on “Representation of the Gita in Judiciary” by J. Shreeshananda and Chiranjeevi Bhat.
  • Dec 26, 5 PM: Talk on “Visual Art and the Gita” by Ganji Raghuprasad, followed by “Gita Magic” by M. D. Kaushik.
  • Dec 27, 5 PM: Discourse on “Vachana Literature and the Gita” by Dr. Veena Bannanje, along with a musical session, Gita Sangeeta Lahari.

The event concludes with a grand finale on December 28 and 29, featuring a Gita Mahayajna, Global Gita Devotees’ Meet, and Gita Nritya Roopaka, as well as the Sahasra Geeta Lekhana Yagna on the final day.

This multi-day celebration aims to deepen devotion, knowledge, and appreciation of the Bhagavad Gita, according to a release by the Math’s administration.
