Udupi girl elected president of OUSU

Udupi: Rashmi Samant, an alumnus of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), and a native of Manipal, has been elected president of the prestigious Oxford University Student Union.

This is the first time an Indian woman has been elected president of the union.

The number of votes received by Samant was more than the total votes received by three other contenders in the presidential elections.

Rashmi is a Master of Science student of Linacre College, Oxford University. She is the daughter of Vatsala Samant and Dinesh Samant.

She did her early education in Manipal and Udupi and finished her graduation in mechanical engineering from MIT (2016-2020 batch).

She was the Technical Secretary of the Student Council at MIT and was instrumental in initiating several constructive activities. She started Manipal Hackathon to provide modern digital solutions to social challenges.

“Very pleased with my daughter’s achievement. She won the student union’s presidential election at Oxford University. The results of the election were released on Thursday night. This has been the best election results in Oxford’s history,” said Rashmi’s father Dinesh Samant from Shivapadi at Manipal.
