Udupi: Students of Government Women’s PU College in Udupi have accused the principal of not allowing them to enter the premises wearing ‘Hijab’.

Six students of first and second PU claimed that they have been made to stand outside the classroom for the past three days for wearing hijab. The students fear that they might face an attendance shortage and are urging the principal to allow them to enter classes.

Campus Front of India and SDPI has condemned the incident and urged the authorities to let the student enter the classroom with the Hijab.

However, college principal Rudre Gowda defended the move saying the hijab ban has been implemented to ensure uniformity in classrooms.

He also said that the female students can wear burqas in the educational institution’s premises, but not inside the classrooms.

A meeting was held with their family members to resolve the issue.
