Uppinangady: Cops cane protesters at police station; Sec 144 imposed

Uppinangady: The city police resorted to lathi-charge on Tuesday, December 14 as the Popular Front of India (PFI) continued to hold protests in front of the station.

Three leaders of the Popular Front of India (PFI)were taken into custody by the police for questioning in connection with certain cases.

Demanding the release of their leaders PFI activists held a protest in front of the police station on Tuesday, December 14.

The police let one of the leaders go, however, the activists pressured the police to release the other two. The organizers also decided to offer namaz in front of the police station at night. However, the police prevented them from doing so.

Around 9 pm the police resorted to caning to disperse the protestors. Atoor Tangal, who led the protestors also got hit.

The department has now enforced section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to control the situation.
