The mix-up occurred near the old bus stand at Saudi Fancy in Uppinagady. Two youths who had visited the shop as the last customers of the day had inadvertently used their key to start and ride away on the shopkeeper’s Activa scooter instead of their own, parked nearby.
Later that night, the shopkeeper was shocked to find the wrong vehicle in place of his own when he prepared to leave for home. When he tried to start the scooter with his key it worked. He thus realised that there had been a mix-up due to a rare key match.
The next day, with the help of the transport department, the shopkeeper traced the vehicle’s registration to its owner in Mangaluru. He contacted the registered owner, who said that the scooter was being used by a relative in Hiribandadi.
