In a press release, VHP Mangaluru divisional secretary Sharan Pumpwell said the PFI leaders were arrested by police for attacking poor “Hindu” fish vendors. Against this arrest, PFI activists protested in front of the police station demanding the release of their leaders.

It may be recalled that police had to resort to lathi-charge on Tuesday, December 14 as PFI continued to hold protests in front of the station demanding the release of its leaders arrested by Uppinangady police. The situation turned tense as several persons were injured and section 144 was clamped down to control the situation.

Police personnel works to protect the public and keep them safe. The violent attack on police by PFI members is condemnable. The persons who attacked police with deadly weapons should be severely punished, Sharan said.

The VHP leader also urged the government that PFI should be banned for its “communal and seditious actions.”
